Unique in Thailand and only found at GranMonte, Durif is eastern-France-originated. It is also known as Petite Sirah in the USA. The variety showed great potential in our experimental vineyard after the first planting in 2005. We have then expended into three sizable blocks of Durif. We are proud to be the first grower and only producer of Durif in Thailand. Hand-harvested at optimum ripeness in the mild February at 23°Brix to avoid overipeness, for juicy flavours and natural acidity. Fermented in stainless steel and malolactic fermentation was done in second year French oak puncheons and aged for 16 months to soften the bold tannins, a distinctive characteristic of this grape variety.
The wine is an explosion of ripe mulberry, blueberry, and black currant jubes, followed by a hint of black pepper and integrated vanilla and mocha oak. It is young yet elegant with powerful tannins and long lingering finish. Only 1,563 bottles produced, this 2017 Durif is a true collector’s item.
